Cluster Beans Curry | Goruchikkudukaya Kura

Print Friendly and PDF
This is a very simple and tasty curry with a freshly ground masala.I am generally lazy to make curries which involves grinding part, but this recipe is like a breeze as the grinding involves only dry ingredients. This can be served as a side dish for roti or rice, let us peek into the recipe.

Cluster Beans Curry Recipe:
(Serves 3-4)

Ingredients:
250 gms Cluster beans
2 medium Onions,finely chopped
a sprig of Curry leaves
1 tbsp Chana dal
1 tsp Urad dal
1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
3 tbsp Oil

masala to grind:
3 tbsp grated dry Coconut
2 tbsp Fried gram/chutney dal(dalia)
5-6 Red chillies
1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
a small pebble sized Tamarind
Salt to taste
Method:
  • Wash and trim the edges of cluster beans and chop them fine.
  • Heat oil in a big kadai and crackle mustard seeds and add urad dal and chana dal and fry for a minute until they turn brown.
  • Add curry leaves and finely chopped onions and fry until the onions are light pink in color.
  • Add chopped cluster beans and fry well.Cover it with a deep plate and pour some water over it,steam cook it for 12-15 mins over low flame.Remove the plate and cook the cluster beans again over medium flame for 5-7 mins.
  • Mean while grind grated dry coconut with fried gram, tamarind, red chillies, turmeric powder and salt to a coarse powder.
  • Add the ground masala to the cooked cluster beans and mix well and cook for 2-3 mins.
Serve it hot with rice/roti.

Notes:
  1. You can even boil the cluster beans and add to fried onions, this will reduce the time of cooking.
  2. You can follow the same procedure for yard long beans or french beans and prepare in a similar way.
  3. If you like the flavor of garlic while grinding the masala add 2-3 cloves of garlic at the end and grind and add it to the curry.

@Ash...it was simple dal tadka which is der in d background..I agree phulka was missing as I made rice that day n was not in a mood 2 plate up..you are always welcome 4 d feast dear..

@ Prathibha
You are a sweet heart. I am a phulka person, not much of a rice fan..unless the rice is piping hot and the curry is manchurian or if biryani is looking at me...my next trip down Mumbai, we can meet for the feast surely.
Love Ash.
